Physical Activity and Public Health: Lessons learned by the use of devices Speaker: Professor Ulf EkelundChair: Professor Marie MurphyProfessor Ekelund's work has provided novel insights on the associations between human behaviours and health with several prominent publications discussing the independent, attenuating or eliminating effects of physical activity on associations between sitting time and morality. Most recently, and reflecting the field, this work has moved away from self-report instruments to device-based measurement.About the speakerProfessor Ulf Ekelund is currently Professor in Physical Activity and Health in the Department of Sports Medicine, at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. He also holds a secondary position as Senior Researcher in Physical Activity and Public Health at the Norwegian Public Health Institute. For the past few decades, Professor Ekelund has led, or co-led, several large international research projects including the European Youth Heart Study and the International Children's Accelerometer Database, and led work-packages on multiple EU funded projects including InterAct and DEDIPAC. He has held notable roles within the Global Observatory for Physical Activity, the International Society for Physical Activity and Health and on WHO expert committees for developing new recommendations for physical activity and sedentary behaviours for public health and physical activity surveillance for both adults and youth.
