The Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (ELAC) Study Group provides a vibrant forum for staff and students at the University of Edinburgh to critically engage with the educational landscapes of the region. 

As part of the CEID Research Group, our aim is to foster a collaborative community of those interested in comparative education and international development and who wish to push the boundaries of knowledge and practice.

Building on the expertise of the CEID Community, ELAC focuses on a few key themes, such as higher education access and internationalisation, digital education technologies and education policy.

We achieve this through a dynamic programme of activities designed to support researchers at all levels:

  • Regular ELAC meetings: Peer-led discussions and presentations where members can share works-in-progress, pose questions and explore emerging themes in a supportive environment
  • Expert seminars featuring leading scholars and practitioners to delve deeper into specific topics and methodologies relevant to the region
  • Research networking events: Actively connecting members with a network of specialists, resources and potential collaborators to help advance individual and collective research interests
