Learning technology support

We offer advice and training on how to enhance teaching and learning through the use of technology, whether that is for campus-based, online or blended learning. This may include:

support for a wide range of learning technologies to develop online and blended learning programmes
project-based work to provide high-quality input to the pedagogical and technical design of courses and programmes
training in the effective use of VLE and other, related, learning technologies, including Learn
empowering and guiding staff to develop digital skills

Video subtitling service

Teaching staff may submit videos to be subtitled, to ensure all students receive fair and accessible materials. We accept the following formats:

a weblink of a video online
a video you have made yourself
a commercial DVD
a session or lecture recorded online (eg, using Collaborate, Kaltura or Teams)

Any video files you have should be uploaded to Media Hopper. DVDs will need to be sent or handed in to Thomson's Land 1.08. There are instructions on the online form and the subtitling team can help if you are not sure how to submit a video.

Note: videos should be submitted at least two weeks before you need the video in a class. This will allow time for it to be subtitled, checked and returned to you. It is always good practice to share the video with a deaf student before it is needed in a class, for example by putting it on VLE (ie, Learn).

We offer a comprehensive video production service, including filming, editing and post-production to create high-quality and engaging content in teaching and learning, knowledge exchange and research.

IT and AV support

We provide a wide range of local IT and AV support for professional and academic staff. This includes technical support and advice for encryption and data security, SharePoint, printing, staff computers, laptops and AV support in specialist teaching spaces.

The service is carried out in liaison with central Information Services to ensure smooth operation of local computing systems where quick or specialised response is necessary.
