Led by Moray House’s EDI Committee Director, Dr Omolabake Fakunle, the event began with speeches from colleagues from across the School, including Interim Head of School, Professor Sam Fawkner. We reflected on the past year, celebrating various EDI events that united our community, and enjoyed foods from different cultures. A particular highlight was the dance-off, where students and staff showcased their moves.
'Diversity was displayed all around'
Feedback from participants highlighted the success of this event. Qixin Bao, a current student, shared: "The introduction about various EDI events was especially illuminating. I also enjoyed the music competition and the dance-off very much. And to have food from different places in the world was amazing as well. Diversity was displayed all around, from the activities, people and food."
Another current student, Ling Shen, expressed gratitude: "Thank you for organising the EDI celebration event - it was so much fun! It was important to see the effort in diversity the School has committed to, which made me, a Chinese international student, feel very special and welcomed. It was a great chance to bring people together, and I loved the vibe."
Staff members appreciated the event, noting the great atmosphere and student involvement. Dr Ken Fordyce commented “That was a great event yesterday. Great work from you and the EDI team, it was great to see Language Education staff at the event and many students from the Institute”. While Professor Kay Tisdall said, “It was a great atmosphere and especially great to see the students involved”.
Events like this provide an opportunity for celebration and serve as a reminder of the strength of our diversity.
