A weekend filled with dance, poetry, art, film, music, and a 4-star review! Pomegranates Traditional Dance Festival and International Day of Dance at St Leonard’s Land Dance Studio in Moray House School of Education and Sport was a weekend filled with dance, poetry, art, film, music, and a 4-star review! The festival started with a great turnout on the 28th of April for a day of 12 World Dance workshops celebrating all forms of dance. The MSc Dance Science and Education (DSE) students, staff, and alumni contributed alongside distinguished global, Edinburgh-based dance artists. Together they made this a special event for all, with opportunities to experience traditional dance forms from Scotland, Northumberland, Ukraine, Italy, Japan, India, Mongolia, Africa, Costa Rica, New York, and the Romany tradition. Friday ended with a triple bill of exceptional dance performances at the Netherbow Theatre with Yuxi Jian (PhD student MHSES), Vincent Hantam (former artist in residence at MHSES), and Alexis Street (DSE alumni) with Scottish and Bulgarian dance artists, receiving a 4-star review. The weekend saw two more evenings of first-class, sell-out performances, including a live performance by Fengyuyi Jiang, Tianru Xu, and Yuxi Jing and a screen dance world premiere of ‘To Begin the Dance Once More’ staring PhD students, Liron Blajwas and Yuxi Jiang. The festival closed with a specially commissioned ‘Sequins of Poetry’ by Ian McMillan, accompanied by a World Dance Hip Hop promenade performance.
