Image Congratulations to Dr Audrey Cameron for her recommendation to His Majesty The King for the honour of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Birthday 2023 Honours List!Dr Cameron (Chancellor’s Fellow and Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry) studied her PGCE at Moray House and is now a lecturer on the PGDE Secondary programme (Chemistry and General Science), and the MSc Inclusive Education (Deaf Studies). Her OBE is being awarded to recognise her:position as Chair of the University’s British Sign Language (BSL) Plan Implementation Groupservices to Chemical Sciencesservices to Inclusion in Science Communication. I was shocked! It is such a huge honour to be awarded an OBE. I will continue the work to improve access to education for deaf children.Dr Audrey Cameron The University’s BSL Plan has been developed to support the use of BSL across all University activities. A BSL user herself, Dr Cameron is particularly excited to roll-out the delivery of actions to provide information and services in BSL, and support the access of BSL users to post-school education. In her work on Inclusion in Science Education, a major project that Dr Cameron has led is the Scottish Sensory Centre’s BSL Glossary, a repository of nearly 5000 BSL signs for scientific terms. As BSL signs are visually representative of scientific terms, the glossary supports deaf and non-deaf students to access and understand scientific concepts better.Moray House School of Education and Sport is so proud of this fantastic achievement and well-deserved recognition of the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of our colleague in this essential area of work in education.
