2-4 years (part-time intermittent study)

How you will learn on the PgDip Deaf Learners programme

A Postgraduate Diploma is made up of 120 credits. To earn a Postgraduate Diploma with this specialism, you will take:

• 7 compulsory courses (100 credits)
• 2 option courses (20 credits)

Placement

Compulsory courses include two school placements:

• 4 weeks of teaching placement in the teacher's current workplace
• 3 weeks of teaching placement in a new setting

The placement gives you an opportunity to critically explore issues of educational inclusion and reflect on your learning within the programme. 

Careers in Deaf learning

This programme provides a qualification that can lead to a new career teaching deaf learners, or an advanced role in the field.

Many graduates go on to teach in schools and further or higher education, often in specialist or peripatetic posts in relation to deaf learners.

You'll also gain a broad range of highly transferable skills, such as communication and project management, which can be applied to roles beyond teaching.

Joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme

You must join Disclosure Scotland's Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme or add to your existing registration if your application to the programme is successful.

If you do not live in the UK, or if you have spent more than a year abroad, you will need to provide equivalent verification from the relevant national authority.
