Physical Education (MA Hons) Induction Sessions

Tuesday 10 September (Sessions 1 and 2)

Session 1: 9:30 - 10:30
Session 2: 13:30 - 15:00

Location: Paterson's Land, Room G1 (find Paterson's Land on campus maps)

Join the MAPE Programme Director, Paul MacMillan and Year 1 Programme Director, Sharon MacKechnie for this induction session which will provide essential information regarding the structure of the courses which comprise Year 1 of your programme.

In Session 1, a variety of organisational and timetabling matters will be discussed, and there will be an opportunity to meet some of the staff involved with the courses and ask questions. You will be introduced to the programme - the team, the courses and the support systems to help you.

In Session 2 you'll meet your student EdBudds from all years of the programme. They will offer advice and answer questions on a variety of topics, including course work, placements, the challenges of organising your weekly schedule, settling into academic work (reading and writing) and life in general as a student in Edinburgh on the MAPE Programme

Thursday 12 September (Session 3)

Session 3: 10:00 - 13:00

Location: St Leonard's Land Games Hall (find St Leonard's Land on campus maps)

This 3rd compulsory session starts with a practical session, followed by workshops led by our fantastic EdBudds, who are our student peer supporters. Wear trackies.

Friday 13 September (Session 4)

Session 4: 9:30 - 12:00

Location: Peffermill Pitches

The final compulsory induction session comprises a fun morning of sports activities, led by our wonderful EdBudds. This is an outdoor session, so wear warm sports gear - trainers or astro shoes (no studs).

Year 2 welcome session

Thursday 12 September 11:00 - 13:30

Location: Paterson's Land, Room TBC (find Paterson's Land on campus maps)

This compulsory session will introduce you to the Year 2 courses and staff.

Year 2 welcome session - sports afternoon

Thursday 12 September 13:30 - 16:00

Location: St Leonard's Land sports hall (find St Leonard's Land on campus maps)

This compulsory session is a fun sports afternoon led by our fabulous EdBudds.

Year 3 welcome session

Thursday 12 September 10:00 - 12:00

Location: Thomson's Land, Room TBC (find Thomson's Land on campus maps)

This compulsory session will introduce you to the Year 3 courses and staff.

Year 4 welcome session

Thursday 12 September 13:00 - 16:00

Location: TBC

This compulsory session will introduce you to the Year 4 courses and staff.

9 - 13 September 2024

The standard University semester 1 opens with Welcome Week, the week before the first week of teaching. Typically students are recommended to arrive in Edinburgh a couple of days before the start of Welcome Week to settle in. Welcome Week is a key part of the undergraduate experience and participation is essential. It is an information-packed week with social and instructive activities planned by the School and the University. It is recommended that you download the University Events App where you will find all Moray House and University-wide welcome events.

Academic Year 2024/25

Important:

Students must be fully matriculated to start their programme on 16 September. If you are not fully matriculated by this point, you may lose your place on your programme.

Semester 1 is very demanding. Students will complete various forms of assessments, including individual tasks and group work.
Students are expected to attend all classes and registers will be taken at tutorials, seminars and workshops. If you are unable to attend a tutorial, seminar or workshop due to illness or for any other reason, you must email the tutor or lecturer in advance to explain why you will be absent.
Teaching ends on 29 November 2024 and the time remaining until the end of the semester is used to complete assignments and take exams. Students will be advised of assignment deadlines by course organisers.
If you are studying here on a Tier 4 visa, and move to Edinburgh, you must let us know in advance if you are going to be travelling away from Edinburgh for more than 5 days. Typically, students must stay in Edinburgh for the duration of their studies and you should advise staff if you wish to leave the country at any point.

23 December 2024 to 10 January 2025

If you are studying here on a Tier 4 visa, and move to Edinburgh, you must let us know in advance if you are going to be travelling away from Edinburgh for more than 5 days.

The University campus is typically closed for some period of time during the Winter holidays and staff and students will not be able to access campus facilities. The University is currently scheduled to be closed 23 December 2024 to 3 January 2025, reopening at 9 am on 4 January 2024, albeit these dates are indicative only.

13 January 2025 to 26 May 2025
