Find details on the structure of the MSc Education and all pathways. Choose option courses by 4 September. Find out how to apply to switch to a different pathway by completing the form.
Before commencing your studies, you must select which option courses you would like to take in the 2024-25 academic year. You will select your option courses for Semester 1 and Semester 2 using the form for your pathway below.
Some specialist pathways have priority places on courses that are available as options for others, so it may be worthwhile to apply to switch to a specialist pathway if you come with a strong preference in a particular specialist area.
If you wish to switch from the 'General' route to a specialist pathway within the programme, you should fill in the pathway switch application form.
Deadline for submitting the form: Wednesday 14 August 2024, 5pm UK time.
Please note this is an application process. To increase the chance of a successful switch, please read the pathway introduction materials carefully.
For more information about our specialist pathways, the Programme Director has recorded an overview of the programme and pathway structure and how to apply to switch pathways.
We cannot guarantee that you will be allocated a space on your selected course. Course choices are subject to approval by Course Organisers and Programme Directors and are dependent on course capacity. Course choices may be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. We will do our best to allocate all students their preferences.
Choose Courses on MSc Education (All Pathways)
Full-time students
Full-time students are required to complete the programme in one year. You need to select 120 credits for taught courses. For most pathways, you will be automatically enrolled on your programme and pathway compulsory courses. On some pathways, you have a choice between sets of compulsory courses.
To indicate your preferences, please fill in the form for your pathway below by Wednesday 4 September. Students will be enrolled on their courses after this deadline.
If you would like to take a full-year course, or have any questions regarding the option course selection process, contact our Student Advisers at SESO@ed.ac.uk
Part-time students
If you are an incoming part-time student, please contact your Student Adviser directly, at SESO@ed.ac.uk, to select your courses for your first academic year.
Part-time students should indicate their choice of both compulsory and option courses for the academic year. Although part-time students have the flexibility to choose courses over two or three years of study, we strongly recommend that you discuss your choices with your academic cohort lead to help with planning and prioritising.
Course selection drop-in session
We will hold an online question-and-answer drop-in session for all MSc Education offer holders to help you with course choices, which are due by 4th September. This would be a chance for anyone still deciding to ask the Pathway leads for advice.
This session will take place on Monday, 2 September, 16:00-17:00 UK time, on Microsoft Teams. Please click the link below to join:
