Teacher education partnerships

Moray House School of Education and Sport is committed to working collaboratively with local authorities and national bodies such as the Scottish Government, Education Scotland and the General teaching Council for Scotland to enhance career-long professional learning (CLPL) for teachers. These highly valued partnerships allow us to provide excellent professional development experiences and enhanced qualifications for aspiring and practicing teachers. 

Through these partnerships, which are underpinned by our unwavering commitment to social justice practices, we aim to be a critical partner in developing and being part of a critically informed, active learning community for teacher education. We will continue to promote and support capacity building across the system to provide greater challenge, expectation and quality in teaching and learning to better meet the needs of all children and young people.

Local authority and school partnerships

Moray House has established partnerships with key local authorities that are closely involved in supporting teacher professional learning provision. Those authorities span rural and urban contexts.

The wider partnership also includes the Scottish Council of Independent Schools.

The teacher education partnership also works closely with the South East Improvement Collaborative (SEIC) through membership on the SEIC strategic board and representation on the PL & L workstream.

Support of Educational Institute of Scotland

The partnership also benefits from the support of the largest and oldest teacher organisation in Scotland, the Educational Institute of Scotland.

Teacher Education Partnership steering group

The University of Edinburgh Teacher Education Partnership Steering Group was established to form closer partnership arrangements between MOray House and key local authority partners.

Meeting formally three times per year, the Steering Group comprises senior representatives from each partner authority and a national teachers’ representative from the EIS.  

The Steering Group is concerned with aspects such as the key principles for partnership, governance and communication arrangements, as well as identifying and overseeing priorities for partnership development work.

The Steering Group is working to further develop the following main areas highlighted in the Teaching Scotland’s Future report:

• Early Career Phase (Initial Teacher Education and Induction)
• Career Long Professional Learning and Masters study
• Educational Leadership and Management and Masters study
