Information on changes to the Moray House School of Education and Sport taught programmes. For almost 200 years, Moray House School of Education and Sport has played a leading role in shaping education and sport in Scotland, the UK and beyond. Our staff, students and alumni contribute to learning, teaching, research, policy and practice, helping to improve the lives of children, young people and adults and supporting the health, wellbeing and development of communities. Today our ambition is to be an engine of educational and social transformation, working with schools, government, industry and communities to tackle the challenges that matter most to learners and society. Our contribution continues to be recognised globally. The University of Edinburgh is ranked 9th in the world for Education and Training and 20th for Sports-Related Subjects in the 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject. Our research is similarly strong, with nearly 90% of our sport research and 80% of our education research assessed as world-leading or internationally excellent in the most recent Research Excellence Framework. Our strength is reflected not only in rankings and research performance, but in the sustainable impact we make. Across both sport and education we educate teachers, practitioners, leaders and researchers; generate evidence that informs policy and practice; and work with schools, professional organisations, communities, policymakers and partners in Scotland and beyond.Continuing to make a positive contribution requires us to respond to the changing needs of learners, education systems and employers. In particular, the education landscape is changing rapidly. Schools and education systems are responding to changing patterns of student need, inequalities in educational outcomes, workforce pressures, increasing demand for additional support, and the opportunities and challenges presented by digital technologies and artificial intelligence. At the same time, the higher education sector is operating in a period of sustained financial and demographic pressure, requiring universities to make careful choices about the shape and scale of their academic provision. Our focus is on ensuring that our teaching, research and wider contribution remain relevant, sustainable and responsive to future needs, while seeking financial stability. We have recently made changes to our degree programme portfolio and these changes form part of this broader approach. These decisions are intended to ensure that Moray House remains focused and well positioned for the future, allowing us to concentrate our expertise and resources. The changes are not a judgement on the value of the disciplines, professions or communities represented by individual programmes. As we review our degree programme portfolio, existing students will continue to be supported through to completion of their programmes. We will also continue to work closely with our staff, students and external partners as the changes are implemented. Our commitment to education and sport remains strong. Our contribution extends far beyond individual programmes. We will continue to make an important contribution through teaching, research, professional learning, knowledge exchange and partnerships.Moray House has always evolved in response to the needs of learners, communities and society. By building on our strengths and focusing our expertise, we will continue to shape education and sport, inform policy and practice, and make a meaningful contribution in Scotland and internationally.
